About Me

My name is Karen J Jakubec and I am a Mermologist. Mermology is the study of merfolk and my passion for merfolk started when I was 3 years old and recieved my first mermaid bath toy. Ever since then I have been studying and collecting merfolk in all forms.

I hold a BA: Art History & Curatorship Hons IV from the Australian National University in Canberra where I created my first website 'The History of Mermaids' as part of my assessment. I also hold a Diploma in Law and Collection Management from the Institute of Art and Law UK.

I've been working in the gallery and museum industry since 1997. Currently I'm on maternity leave from my position as Loans Manager at Museum Victoria in Melbourne Australia where I've been able to make many valuable friends and contacts.

I have served as a council member for the Australasian Registrars Committee, the professional body for collection managers and registrars in Australia and New Zealand.

I hope to return to studies to complete a Masters and PhD one day.
